COVID-19: Eviction Ban Extended

The government has announced that the ban on residential evictions in England will be extended to the end of March 2021, which also coincides with the expiry of the ban on commercial evictions.

The residential ban was due to end on 21 February.

The regulations have not yet been made public and so it’s not known whether there are any further changes to the exceptions.

Housing is a devolved issue, and Wales and Scotland have already extended their bans to the end of March. A similar extension exists in Northern Ireland.

This doesn’t address the problem of rent debts piling up, as noted in an earlier post.

UPDATE 23/02/21 - the revised regulations have now been issued as a statutory instrument.
